oh.my.lord….
Well, to say that the Sugar sponsored “official afterparty” for Viva Pinata was cool would be a gross understatement. Seriously, pure madness.
We set up in one of our favorite old-school locations up Gazos Creek Rd. A simple turnout nestled in amongst the redwood trees with a creek running near by, the Gazos Creek location has always come through. Even with the 200+ crazy kids, the location fit everyone super nice.
Djs for the night just simply kicked ass. 187soundsystem started the night off with a good mix of drum-and-bass and dubstep. Then Dj Downward surprised us all with a full rippin set of breaks, happy hardcore, and epic trance. Had me laughing my ass off with glee. Our good friend Danny Yun came next with such precision, you could swear you were listening to one of the best, on par with Paul Oakenfold or Sasha. Everyone was commenting left and right that he was the night’s secret weapon. I got to follow and if I may say so myself, I played one of the best sets I’ve ever played. It was one of those sets where the music picked itself and everything fit perfectly. Rob Monroy sauntered into our little secret garden around 6am after a full night of partying up in SF and laid down a perfect sunrise/morning closing set. We still had close to 50 people either dancing or waving their arms and bobbing their heads nestled at the foot of the trees.
A classic event that will be talked about for years.

Chaos is fun. Energy in chaos is such a nice liberator. Helps you feel alive and stuff. Haha.
Word on the street is that last night’s Sugar was the very best one so far. We had the normal mix of young and old, but I think the young ones were winning last night. Personally, also I think the fact we were upstairs in the larger of the “studios” had a huge impact on the energy building capabilities. The room was nice, compact, and super intimate. Full dancefloor all night long and awesome sets thrown down by Rob, Steve, and Taj. People just being generally quite nutty and that’s the way we like it.
Rob surprised us all by throwing down of all things crazy a nice set of gritty downtempo breaks and drum and bass. I like gritty myself. Makes your butt do the talking.
Steve threw down a super set taking us all on a full on journey through electro, trance, breaks, even some more gritty downtempo stuff. Like I said, last night had chaos running amok and the Steve ran with it in the best way possible.
Taj kicks my ass. Taj kicked everybody’s ass. Full on screams of joy as he hammered through sick fuckin trance and breaks. To find out more where he’s playing next, check his website: www.djtaj.com. Super stoked he came down to our little burg and had a great time.
So, long to the short. Those that missed last night, you really missed out. All night long, all I saw were smiles everywhere and git down funky dancing.
Here are some pics taken by photog maestro Kwai took for us: http://kwailam.smugmug.com/gallery/5161059_umNhk#312505347_wVAka
Thanks again for all your smiling faces.
